Tuesday with Tiff: Are you too busy?

Do you have margin in your life? Is what you're doing life giving and the influence you want?

Are you too busy to pray?

Are you too busy to relax?

Are you too busy to take a day off?

Are you too busy to read your Bible?

Are you too busy to spend time with your kids?

Are you too busy to dream new dreams?

Are you too busy to attend adult worship?

Are you too busy to write a thank you note?

Are you too busy to just sit and think?

Are you too busy to celebrate the victory?

Are you too busy to use your vacation time?

Are you too busy to enjoy the blessing God sent your way?

Are you too busy to call your parents just to say I love you?

Are you too busy to evaluate what you're currently doing?

Are you too busy to read in order to grow?

Are you too busy to enjoy your favorite hobby?

Are you too busy to take a lunch break?

Are you too busy to go to your child's program at school?

Are you too busy to get proper sleep?

Are you too busy to build your team?

Are you too busy to raise up other leaders?

Are you too busy to just talk to someone in the hallway with no agenda?

Are you too busy to go on a date with your spouse?

Guess what?  Things are not going to slow down.  Maybe it's time to slow yourself down.

Don't be so busy that you miss the little things in life that are really the big things.

Tuesday with Tiff: Helping Kids Hear God's Voice in the Quiet

Kids are growing up in a world that has very few quiet times.

Mobile devices buzz almost non-stop with texts, email, tweets, or phone calls.  24/7 television channels are on most of the time in our homes.  Earphones plugged into ipods pipe music into our ears.  In the car, we have music, the dvd player, or the radio cranking.  The noise of the latest "viral video" coming from our iPad or tablet constantly catches our attention.  The sound effects from video games can be heard for hours a day.  The audio from commercials or advertisements come at us like a flood.

The other day, I was reading the story of God speaking to young Samuel and something jumped out at me.  When did Samuel hear God's voice?  It was while he was lying in the "quietness" of his bed.  In the quietness, he was able to clearly hear God's voice.

I wonder if kids would hear God's voice more often if provided them with more quiet?

It's something you will have to be very intentional about in our busy, noisy culture.

You'll have to teach kids to unplug from the noise on a regular basis.  And that's not easy.  Because we all get addicted to the noise, don't we.

You'll have to help kids find a quiet place.  Somewhere away from the noise.  Maybe in the backyard under a tree.  Maybe in their room.  Maybe in the living room with the tv and computer off.

You'll have to teach kids how to get alone with God.  Alone is where they'll find the quiet place.

And the quiet place is where they'll hear God's voice as they spend time with Him.

Tuesday with Tiff: How to Make the Bible Come Alive for Kids

Dan Johnson makes history come alive for his students.  Watch the video below and pick up some great ideas for making the Bible come alive for the kids you minister to.  The ideas I gleaned from him are listed below.  Feel free to share your ideas and thoughts in the comment section.
Click Here to Watch the video!

  1. Engage all senses.  He even used kerosene lamps to engage the sense of smell.
  2. Create experiences instead of just dishing out facts and figures.
  3. Make it interesting.  Kids quickly know the difference between interesting and boring.
  4. Take them there by re-creating the environment.  It doesn't have to be elaborate.  Using a few simple props makes a difference.  This will jump start kids' imaginations.
  5. Kids will only get as excited about the lesson as you are.

NETWORKING you want, INSPIRATION you long for and EQUIPPING strategies you need

Early Childhood Track // Jackie Reynolds

With 40 years of teaching in the early childhood ministry, Jackie has so much to offer others who desire to impact kids and families.  When observing her kindergarten class, she exemplifies creativity with storytelling as well as modeling a loving connection with her class and families.  She has mastered the art of teaching and reaching kids!

Session 1:Let’s Be Ready To Use Our Gift of Teaching

Having a lesson is a great place to start but how do you make it come alive!  In this session you will learn to make preschool lesson plans work for you and your children as well as gain some skills to organize everything you need.  Learn a strategy to daily prepare for your class time.

Session 2: Take Ourselves Up a Notch

Leaving a lasting legacy with kids and their parents goes beyond your personal abilities.  Learn how to partner with the Lord as you prepare yourself and learn what God desires to accomplish through each child.

Session 3:  Stretch the Way We Present Our Lesson and Make It Memorable

This session will be full of the best preschool techniques to engage children and keep them moving in God’s direction.  You will walk away with fun, creative and easy to utilize ideas that will make it easy for kids to remember what they’re learning.

Elementary Track // Rhonda Haslett

As a friend to those who minister to teens and children, Rhonda Haslett is a veteran who equips and empowers ministers through practical workshops, systematic processing, hands-on experience.  She is the founder of a children’s ministry network resource, WeGrowMinistries.com as well as "Pasta Roni & Friends,” an evangelistic ministry to children and families.  She and her husband are currently youth pastors in Indianapolis where they along with their 4 children reside.  Did we mention that she is designed to brainstorm!  You will walk away with many ways to STRETCH yourself for greater impact.

Session 1: Establishing a Strong Environment for SMALL GROUP Impact

Research makes it clear; the generation of children in our ministries today is vastly different than any other group of children the church has sought to reach.  They engage and experiment with learning and community in ways that mandate different methodologies.  Discover the unique learning characteristics of today's kid and learn to leverage those characteristics in your small group ministry.

Session 2: Essential Elements for Experiential LARGE GROUP Impact

In this session we’ll approach the best practices that will help you expand your abilities for high influence toward life transformation.  In our discussion we’ll share about missions, kids in ministry and most importantly, kids experiencing the presence of God.  Let’s make kids church sizzle!

Session 3: Care for Yourself and Your Team

Ministry has a way of stretching us beyond what we thought we could ever imagine.   Children’s ministry leaders often feel pulled as they feel the internal and external pressures of ministry expectations. This session will show you how to navigate through the natural emotions of ministry in order to understand healthy boundaries.  Explore ways to create breaks in ministry when there seem to be none on the horizon.  Defeating burnout for your team members can happen!  Health for your team starts with health for yourself.

Youth Track // Rob Haslett

Combined with nearly 20 years of ministry experience and longevity at his current location of ministry, Rob will help you grow in areas you may have not considered necessary.  He enjoys experiencing ministry in a team setting and loves pouring into other ministers around the state through camps, conferences, and organizing youth ministry gatherings.  Being with students and walking alongside other youth ministers in a relational setting is what fuels his ministry initiatives.  He received his B.S. in youth ministry from North Central University.

Session 1:  Top Mistakes of Every Youth Worker

From experience and observing others in ministry Rob will share ways to stretch your mind to think past common mistakes in order to have a long and successful ministry.

Session 2:  You've Got What It Takes

Eight things that you already have (but might not know it) that makes your ministry impacting.
Regardless of your current ministry conditions, this session will help you feel confident to fulfill your calling to teens.

Session 3: STRETCH, in Every Sense of the Word

Stretching is an important routine, and not just to physical activity. This session will challenge you to stretch you in ALL areas of your life.

Tuesday with Tiff: Why you should have the worst parking spot at church

Where do you park at church?

I've seen churches who reserve the best parking for the pastor and staff.  Here's a "real life" example.

But I think the opposite should happen.  I believe staff should park in the worst parking and save the best parking for guests.

Guests decide if they are going to return in the first 8 minutes.  Do you want them to spend the first 8 minutes trying to find a parking spot and then having to walk all the way across the parking lot?

Think for a moment how nice it is to find a great parking spot at Wal-Mart, Target, or the mall.  You enter the crowded, busy parking lot with thousands of cars stretched across miles of parking lot...(okay...maybe it's not that big...but it feels like it).  And just when you think you'll have to park far away, suddenly a spot opens up right in the front.  You hurriedly grab it, hoping no one else will beat you to it.  And when you pull in...you feel great.  Blessed.  Privileged.

Don't you want your guests feeling like that when they walk in your doors for the very first time?  Are you willing to save the best parking spots to see this happen?  Are you willing to park in the worst parking spot to see it happen?
